Special Non-Metallic Connector Made with Material that Does Not Absorb Moisture
Submerged & Corrosive-Resistant Cord Grips
The Challenge:
A company that manufactures pool and spa pumps, filters, and accessories had tried and evaluated various types of cord grips for use with their large and small underwater lights for in-ground pools. Standard aluminum cord grips rusted and were too large in size. Plastic and nylon grips morphed causing the connector to expand and contract which wasn’t acceptable. Stainless steel grips were too expensive, and nickel-plated grips were also too costly and didn’t offer the superior corrosion-resistance required. None of the grips the company tested could withstand the long-term effects of being submerged in water containing corrosive elements like chlorine. In addition, none of the suppliers.
The Remke Solution:
To provide the customer with a smaller-size cord grip that would be reliable when submerged in water with corrosives, the Remke Flexible solutions team created a special version of the company’s Dome Cap non-metallic connector in Valox®. They selected Valox because it is non-hydroscopic - meaning it doesn’t absorb moisture. And in this particular application, the use of a different material of construction meant that neither the water, or the chemicals in the water, could encroach into the custom Dome Cap connector in any way. Remke also designed special bulk packaging for easier storage of these connectors in the customers’ inventory.
