Specially Designed Pass-Thru Connector Will Not Leak When Submerged in Liquid
Immersed & Abusive Application
The Challenge:
A manufacturer of all-terrain, all season, track-driven vehicles was experiencing a leakage problem from the transmission case of one of their vehicles that was used primarily for trail development for cross-country ski trails or snowmobiles. Initially the company tried standard compression-type metal cord connectors to stop the leaking. But they did not have consistent success as the seals around the individual conductors were not reliable due to the lubricity of the transmission fluid. In addition, the chemical reaction of the wire jacketing material used in the cord connector was also of concern.
The Remke Solution:
To meet the demanding environment within the transmission case, the Remke Flexible Solutions Team needed to develop a connector that could withstand being immersed in the transmission fluid for extended periods of time and would not leak. The team designed a completely new type of 6-pole Mini-Link connector. They used epoxy potting compound instead of overmolding material, and utilized Teflon wire instead of the standard 16 or 18 AWG cable to better resist the chemical breakdown from the transmission fluid. The end result was a unique design; a potted, pass-thru electrical connector with potted wires at both ends of the connector so that the wires can pass through from the inside of the transmission to the outside.
The Remke Solution solved the leakage problem and provided the manufacturer with the industrial, heavy-duty connection they desired. The company was so pleased with the results plus the design & function of the Remke custom connector that they continue to purchase a quantity of these products on a regular basis today.
